DPMF PROGRAMS

Publications, Information Activities and Networking

The dissemination of good practices in governance, of research findings, or of basic data and information, through various forms of publications, is an important if not essential aspect of DPMFs program of consolidating and institutionalizing democracy and good governance. DPMF carries out this important activity of raising knowledge level and consciousness through its publication and data bank activities.

Publication Activities

This consists of several types of publications:

* DPMN Bulletin (English and French) targeting the busy senior and mid level civil servants: Distributed free of charge to about 1000 individuals and institutions in Africa and outside Africa. Seven volumes, 18 numbers and 107 articles have been published.

* Conference and Workshop Proceedings: Distributed mainly to participants of these meetings, institutions and individuals who express interest in the proceedings.

* Book Series: Our first two books are expected out in August 2001 and are based on selected papers of previous conferences on ?Democracy, Governance and Civil Society? and ?Democracy and Conflicts in Africa.? By the middle of 2002, at least two other books are expected to be published from the research findings of the Research Teams on Leadership in Civil Society in East and Southern Africa (research done in ten countries).

* Working Papers: These are selected papers from Conferences and Workshops which had generated wide interest and discussion during their presentations. They are also distributed free of charge and on request.

* An Annual Roster of African Experts in Development Management. Two volumes have been published containing a total of 115 experts.

Data Bank, Information and Networking Activities

Individuals and Institutions connected to and who are networking with DPMF need many different types of information which DPMF cannot fully satisfy nor does it have the resources to do so. However DPMF does try to provide some basic information to its various constituencies. At present this information is provided at request. However, as we develop, some of this information could be provided electronically - through e-mail or through DPMF?s own Website.

There are several important African data banks which DPMF has already established close links with. These are the ECA/ISS/Library, the OAU Documentation Unit, CODESRIA?s CODICE, the AAU and the ADB Documentation Unit.
