Research Program
The DPMF Research program aims
at supporting both the policy makers and civil society in their respective
efforts at institutionalizing democracy, good governance and avoiding
or preventing conflict. It therefore focuses on three general areas:
(a) on various aspects of the democratization process, governance
and civil society including the policy process itself, (b) leadership
in civil society and (c) on the various types and phases of conflicts
? management, resolution and post-conflict reconstruction and peace-building.
A research team - five researchers
from five East African countries ? is presently undertaking comparative
research on the issue of leadership in civil society in these countries.
A similar research team is being set up for five Southern African
countries. At the December 2001 conference, the work of these research
teams will be discussed and eventually published (in 2002). During
2001 three five man research teams will also be set up ? one for each
of the sub-regions of East, Central, and West Africa.
